Vegetable Grilling Times for Ultimate Taste and Flavor


Grilling is not an all-meat activity. We need to also share the spotlight with fruits and vegetables. Veggies can prove to be really delicious even when grilled. Its sweet, smoky flavor can put complete your outdoor grilling adventure! This is a good option to those who are always conscious of excess calories!

Now, how do we grill them without serving them in its all-charred glory? Be watchful of the time. No need to act like a hawk watching the grill. Relax. You just need to know how long certain veggies cook. Always brush them lightly with oil so that they won’t stick to the grill bars.

Let’s start with a corn on the cob. After carefully pulling back the husks (without totally removing it), soak in cold water for 20-30 minutes. When dry, brush with butter and fold the husks back and tie the ends. Now, grill for about 5-7 minutes. Turn frequently to avoid burning. When steam’s already visible, it’s done!

For the asparagus, just trim the tough ends and grill for about 6-8 minutes. Artichokes would just take 8-10 minutes. Just make sure that it has been cut in half lengthwise and has been steamed or boiled before grilling. For cherry tomatoes, you can grill them for only 1-3 minutes on each side or until you see that the skins are beginning to split. With removed stems, okra can be grilled for 6-8 minutes on each side or until tender.

Bellpeppers – my favorite! Remove the stems, seeds and the white ribs after cutting through the middle, top to bottom. After brushing lightly with oil, it only takes 2-3 minutes to grill them on each side. Chili peppers, on the other hand, take about 2-3 minutes. You can remove the seeds to reduce the heat.

Mushrooms can be grilled, too! No need to cut them. It takes 6-8 minutes to grill large mushrooms but only 4-5 minutes when smaller. How about onions? Just remove the skin and cut horizontally. Grill for 3-4 minutes. Eggplants need to be ¾ inch thick when sliced with a given time of 8-10 minutes on the grill. Want to try potatoes? ½ inch thickness is good enough for a grilling time of 15-20 minutes.
